Brent’s Raheem is living the Dream
At Grey & Co, we’re proud to have been serving Wembley since 1991. And we’re even prouder to play our part in the community and celebrate its heroes.
The pandemic certainly taught us that many superheroes don’t wear capes but are the people who kept us, and continue to keep us going, such as nurses, doctors, shop workers and teachers.
Other local heroes wear boots, football boots to be precise.
It was fantastic to see local lad Raheem Sterling play AND score for England at Wembley Stadium in our opening game versus Croatia.
Raheem grew up on St Raphael’s Estate, just a short walk from the national stadium.
He went to school at Copland High School, which is now the Ark Elvin Academy.
And he marked his selection for the England team by posting a series of tweets on Twitter with the hashtag #TheboyfromBrent.
And he’s put his money where his mouth is when it comes to not forgetting his roots.
In 2019 he paid for 550 pupils from his former school to watch his club, Manchester City, play in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley Stadium.
Not only is he a star on the pitch, but a fantastic role model and activist off it.
Raheem has been one of the driving forces in English football’s campaign to drive racism out of society.
His off the field work played a big part in him being honoured with a recent MBE to go alongside his football medals and trophies.
Hopefully, when the Euro 2020 championships end at Wembley Stadium on Sunday 11 July, he’ll have another winning medal to add to his collection.
