How to Choose a Good Removals Company: Tips for Wembley Home Movers

Moving day. Two words that can strike fear into even the calmest of homeowners. Boxes everywhere. Wardrobes that won't fit through doorways. A van running late while the new owners are already waiting for the keys.

How to Choose a Good Removals Company: Tips for Wembley Home Movers
Here's the good news: choosing the right removals company sorts out most of that stress before it even starts.

Start looking the moment you have a date
Leave it too late, and you'll have fewer choices and probably a higher bill. Fancy saving some cash? A midweek move is often cheaper than a Friday or weekend one.

Ask around before you Google it
A personal recommendation is worth its weight in gold. Nobody to ask? Check reviews properly before you book anyone.

Check they're a proper removals company
Man-with-a-van services can be tempting on price, but ask yourself: are they insured for removals, and do they know how to handle your grandmother's China cabinet?

Look for BAR membership
Members of the British Association of Removers sign up to a strict code of conduct, plus an advance payment guarantee and a proper dispute resolution service. Their website lets you search for members near you.

Be completely honest about what's moving
Not just the furniture, everything. That "one box in the loft" is never just one box.

Flag anything tricky
Got a garage, cellar, shed or a piano lurking somewhere? Mention it. The same goes for access issues, narrow roads, no parking, three flights of stairs, and no lift. It might nudge the quote up, but it saves an argument on the day.

Get a proper survey done
An in-person or video survey nearly always gives a more accurate quote than one done over the phone.

Check whether the quote is fixed or hourly
Hourly can sting if the day overruns.

Check the insurance
Ask about goods in transit cover, public liability, and what the limits are.

Decide if you need packing
It's rarely included as standard and can add a hefty chunk to the bill, but it's worth it if you'd rather not spend a week wrapping mugs in newspaper.

Get it all in writing
What's moving, where from, where to, whether it's one trip or several, and what counts as an extra charge.

Ask about changing your date
Some companies flex for a fee if your plans shift. Others charge to cancel altogether. Better to know now than on moving day.
One last thing. The cheapest quote isn't always the best one. Found a mover you trust who isn't the cheapest? A polite bit of negotiating rarely hurts.
Thinking about your next move? We're always happy to point you toward the removers at our client’s rate.

Estate Agency Done Ethically
Many people don't trust estate agents. We're trying to change that.
That's why we're proud members of the Ethical Agent Network (EAN), an independent body that checks our work against strict standards of honesty, service, and how we look after our clients, colleagues and community.
We're the only local agency to have passed the EAN test, and we're reassessed regularly to ensure our standards remain high.
So, if you're thinking of moving, talk to us.

Meet Abigail

Hello, my name is Abigail, and I am the Grey in Grey & Co. I started working here in 2002 as a Junior Negotiator and have worked my way up the ranks since then. I took over running the company in 2014 and have been enjoying the roller coaster that is leadership ever since.   During my 20 plus years at Grey & Co I have dealt with the sale of over £100,000,000 worth of property and overseen the management of assets worth £250,000,000 for clients around the world.   I also had the pleasure of working with my father, the founder of Grey & Co, for 15 years before he sadly passed away and from him, I learnt the work hard ethic and our values today are still the ones that he founded the company on all those years ago.   Be Remarkable, Be Passionate, Be Humble and Be Better.   As a community centric boutique family agency, you couldn’t find a better partner to take with you on your property journey.
