The Secrets of Successful Regifting

Don’t leave unwanted Christmas presents to gather dust – regift them instead. Here’s how. If you’ve received some Christmas gifts you don’t want, don’t like (or even absolutely hate), then regifting them can be the perfect solution. Here’s how to do it successfully.

The Secrets of Successful Regifting
Don’t feel guilty about regifting

If you’re thinking of regifting, you’re in good company.

A full 89% of us have regifted a present before, according to a survey by courier company Pack and Send. The most common reasons for regifting are convenience (38%) and that it’s good for the environment (37%). Around a third of respondents said they regift because it saves money.

Only 10% said they’ve regifted a present because they don’t like the recipient enough to buy them something new.*

Who might really love it?

This is an absolute must when regifting.

Don’t try to dump your unwanted gift on just anyone. Think about who would actually like it or find it useful. Think about who would really love to receive it.

A good tip is to regift to different social circles. So, for example, gifts from family shouldn’t be regifted to family. But they could be regifted to friends, colleagues or neighbours and vice versa.

If you aren’t really sure that something will make a great regift – if you wouldn’t have bought it as a gift in the first place – don’t regift it. A charity shop or the tombola stall at a fete or gala might appreciate those items instead.

Get ahead with regifting in 2025

Make a note in your diary, or in your phone calendar, to remind you of upcoming birthdays, anniversaries and special occasions.

Store each gift away carefully until it’s ready to be regifted. Avoid the sheer horror of regifting to the original giver (or their family or friends) by attaching a label saying who gave you it in the first place, why – and when.

When regifting, it’s never acceptable to reuse the original gift wrap. Choose new gift wrap and a tag that will personalise the gift for the new recipient and really make it theirs.

One last tip: There’s no time like the present when it comes to regifting. Why not sort and store away those unwanted presents now? Then you can relax and enjoy the rest of your Christmas.

Do you know anyone who would find these tips useful? If you do, feel free to share this article with them – unless, of course, you’re planning on regifting them something over the next year.

Meet Abigail

Hello, my name is Abigail, and I am the Grey in Grey & Co. I started working here in 2002 as a Junior Negotiator and have worked my way up the ranks since then. I took over running the company in 2014 and have been enjoying the roller coaster that is leadership ever since.   During my 20 plus years at Grey & Co I have dealt with the sale of over £100,000,000 worth of property and overseen the management of assets worth £250,000,000 for clients around the world.   I also had the pleasure of working with my father, the founder of Grey & Co, for 15 years before he sadly passed away and from him, I learnt the work hard ethic and our values today are still the ones that he founded the company on all those years ago.   Be Remarkable, Be Passionate, Be Humble and Be Better.   As a community centric boutique family agency, you couldn’t find a better partner to take with you on your property journey.
